THE TRUNK
With an amazing tour guide, a gaggle of wonderful women, and a rich culture found around every corner, I became a enamored and inspired. What makes these photos so special are the conditions under which much of my street photography was taken. With nine of us in tow I found as much comfort as possible in my only available “seat” — the trunk. For so much of our ride to Santo Domingo, I laid or sat down in the most comfortable position I could find. But as we entered the heart of the city, I realized how I was only getting a worm’s eye view. Seeing only beautiful corners of colorful buildings, I eventually decided to do my best and squat to look out the back window. What I saw were rainy, winding roads, beautiful people and architecture, and so so many mopeds. For the rest of the trip, I balanced in the trunk with my lens pressed to the glass, snapping shot after shot — capturing the Dominican Republic from my own unique perspective.
